The Scissors

After setting your defender up with the Stanley Matthews (aka, inside out) move, you can use The Scissors to open up even more space for yourself.

This move is not only fun, but incredibly effective because you don't need to be moving at full speed to use it. The success of this move depends upon how well you set up the defender before using it. If you haven't done the inside out move, it doesn't mean you can't use The Scissors. In that case, however, you need to get the defender to slow their momentum while "setting them up" to lean in the wrong direction.

Remember, moves such as these do not need to be done at 100% pace, but DO NEED a change of pace and a larger second touch.

There are several players you can watch to see how to use this move in a game situation: Abby Wambach (USA women's national team), Eddie Johnson (USA/FC Dallas), Aly Wagner (Olympic Lyon/USA women's national team), not to mention Ronaldinho (Barcelona/Brazil), Arjen Robben (Chelsea/Holland) and Ryan Giggs (ManU/Wales). When you watch these players, notice how they not only set the defender up, but use their touches to first unbalance and distance themselves from their immediate defender, while surveying the space they have as they separated themselves.
